On Ash Wednesday last week, we heard the advice of Jesus: “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.” (Matthew 6:6) With prayer, these are indeed words of wisdom. However, when it comes to talking about something that we are doing and are doing with passion, we are compelled to spread the word as far and wide as possible. With this in mind and heart, we are thrilled to share this inaugural edition of The Drumbeat, a monthly e-newsletter connected to the ministry of Men As Learners and Elders.
Guys, admit it—we are part of something very exciting and very important. We are small in the big scheme of things, but what we have to offer the world can indeed help transform it. There are so many things that do happen within this men’s work and even without knowing about all of them, you stay connected and trust and support the movement. What would it look like, though, if we kept you more connected and informed?
As most of you know, the 30th of each month is a special day for us to be in conscious connection and prayer with the men of our world. To help give you a reminder that the day is approaching, we will send you the latest edition of The Drumbeat a few days before the 30th. Be sure to subscribe using the form to the right, if you haven't already, to continue receiving future installments of The Drumbeat. There is no cost to subscribe.
This e-newsletter will tell you about developments that are occurring here at MALEs Central in Albuquerque, as well as inspiring events in regional areas (domestic and international). It will be a place to learn about new resources and new programs and to be inspired by the poetry, photos, and stories of men.
It will also be a place where you can make a monthly contribution to this important work. The men’s work still does not cover itself financially. If every man would make even a $30 contribution per month, we could move many things to the next level. Remember that our goal is to see the return of Initiation to Western Culture within five generations. Let us do our work now so that there will be future generations. Your donation can be made easily and securely on-line by clicking here.
I close with two pieces—one of excitement and one a request. First, what's exciting—the announcement of our new Men’s Work Manager, Matt Sholler. Matt came to do an exploratory month with the Center back in January. All went well--we extended a job offer and Matt accepted. Matt brings a strong background in organizing and networking and a deep interest and passion for the men’s work. Matt will tell you more about himself in next month’s newsletter. And the request—I ask that you hold Fr. Richard in prayer during this his Lenten Hermitage time. Please pray that Richard receive both the rest and restlessness that he needs. His foundation and contribution to this work is so imperative. Glad to be in this together!
Peace,
