Stephen Hicken and family members have initiated eight young men including his four sons and four nephews. Hicken organized and led his first family-based rite-of-passage in 1995 and most recently for his youngest son in 2009.
This resource consists of a set of two DVDs that features a 2007 workshop offered by Hicken titled From Boy to Man: Family Rites of Passage for Adolescents and a manual that explains in detail how to create family rites of passage for young males.

Stephen Hicken is an active member and a leader of the Men As Learners and Elders (M.A.L.Es.) program in Northern California. He currently works with WAGES, an organization which builds green businesses for low-income women. Hicken lives in Castro Valley, CA, with his wife of twenty-nine years and with two of his four sons.
